The stylist Michelle Obama revoked for filing its brand

Jason Wu is famous in the world of fashion, and for good reason, he dressed one of the most watched women in the world: Michelle Obama. Monday, January 21, at the inauguration ball of her husband for a second term at the head of the United States, the first lady also wore a spectacular dress created by the designer in Taiwan.
Despite this window of choice, Jason Wu was denied filing the trademark "Miss Wu" in his homeland. Reason given by the court: the chosen name is too common. "Even if it's someone famous, the question must be approached from a legal point of view," explained Tuesday press-tsao Teh Lee, spokesman of the court on Intellectual Property in Taiwan. "Wu" is a very common surname on the island and therefore can not be protected by trademark laws, he said.

NEW APPLICATION

This decision, reached Monday, has caused outrage in the country. The stylist Chen Sun-hua has termed "rude imposed on the fashion industry." Director of the Office of Intellectual Property, Wang Mei-hua, however, suggested that the creator could receive the green light from authorities, the filing of a new application with the same name. "Approval is likely if he tries again this year, although showing 'Miss Wu' is known as a brand by local customers," he said.

Aged 30 years, Jason Wu has left his native island childhood to emigrate to North America. Michelle Obama had chosen this designer for her dress balls inauguration four years ago.
